Odes. Horace
Quint Horace Flask - the greatest poet of Ancient Rome, whose name, along with the names of Virgil and Ovid, marks the heyday of the "Golden Age" of Roman poetry. His work did not lose significance in modern times. Among the beloved poets was called Horace Alexander Pushkin, and the famous Pushkin “Monument” was written based on the famous Oda Horace. Other Russian poets also turned to the Roman author: Lomonosov, Derzhavin, Maikov, Fet, Tyutchev, Annensky, Bryusov, Pasternak... The present edition presents the complete works of Horace: Odes, epics, satires and messages translated by the dimensions of the Latin original. This enables the reader as close as possible to the original sound of the poems of Horace and get comfortable with the techniques of its poetic technique, with complex rhythms and whimsical bends of thought, with what antiquity called "science of poetry." The publication includes detailed notes and an article by Mikhail Gasparov, and is also supplemented by the section “Oda Horace in translations of Russian poets”.
