The name of Vladimir Ivanovich Dal, the author of the “Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language”, everyone knows in our country. In the Dahl meeting, there are more than a thousand folk tales for children and adults recorded from the words of ordinary peasants and literary processed by the writer.

The book “The Old Man-Code” included the most famous tales for children: “The Girl of the Snow Maiden”, “ Crane and heron ”,“ War of mushrooms with berries ”,“ Fox and the bear ”, as well as games, proverbs, riddles, songs and foster, selected by the famous literature historian Ivan Khalturin. The collection is unusual in structure: fairy tales alternate with riddles and proverbs, next to fables and tongue twisters - folk games, then again fairy tales. The book undoubtedly develops the speech instincts of a small child, introduces into his consciousness important moral concepts of good and evil, spiritual generosity, responsibility for the entrusted business.

In illustrations to the collection, artist Vladimir Mikhailovich Konashevich comes from the paintings of Russian dishes and embroidery. Pages with riddles, proverbs and sayings resemble village trays that decorated the walls of the houses. The text lies right on large flowers, sweepingly painted with watercolors. The old man-coward himself in a superbly painted fur coat with huge bells of the sleeves, depicted in the entire page, is picturesque. Every three months, he produces birds with a wave of his hand, the color of which is different everywhere: cold blue-winter, pale pink-spring, yellow-orange-summer, gloomy purple-autumn.

It is recommended for children of preschool and younger school age for reading and re -reading a wonderful text and considering excellent illustrations.
