Nikolai Nikolaevich Karazin (1842 - 1908) possessed outstanding abilities - the talent of the painter was successfully combined in it with literary talent. During his creative activity, he wrote more than twenty volumes of works of art, created about four thousand drawings and watercolors, hundreds of paintings, illustrated dozens of books. Karazin was widely known by his numerous literary works dedicated to Russian - Kazakh relations, the first steps of Russia in Turkestan. For a long time he lived in the Turkestan Territory, participated in two military campaigns as a correspondent and an artist and in two scientific expeditions. Being an observant artist, he carefully studied the features of this region, the customs and customs of its indigenous inhabitants, was interested in the life of Russian immigrants and the military, managed to catch a lot in the events of that time that reflected in his works. The book publishes an adventure novel from the era of the conquest of the Turkestan Territory - “on the distant outskirts”, as well as reproductions of the author’s picturesque works.
