in the fall of 1935, Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov, correspondents of the newspaper Pravda and the authors of the books “12 chairs” and “Golden Calf”, went to America. For three and a half months they managed to cross the whole country from end to end at the new “Ford”. The result of this trip was the cycle of essays “One -story America” - the last work of the co -authors, which was released in a separate publication in 1937. Apparently, they were expected from an evil satire on the society of capitalism, but a kind and smart book, telling about the life and life of the Americans, about meetings with a variety of people, full of interesting stories and observations.
