The second science fiction novel by the author, which was preceded by the Hampenser Miracle (1911). Herbert Wells style, with an ironic description of the devastated world, seen through the London family from the lower middle class.

The plague destroys most of the male population of the world. The new society is adapted in favor of women and against old -fashioned conventions.

The few survivors fall into wild. Meanwhile, a group of women (accompanied by one surviving man) leaves the wreckage of London to start all over again, creating a communal agrarian outpost. But most of them have no labor useful skills - will the commune survive its first winter?
