The second volume of the “own notes” by N. N. Muravyov-Karsky covers the temporary period from 1816 to 1820. The author describes his service in it in the Caucasus, staying in the Russian embassy under the leadership of General A.P. Ermolov in Persia, then headed by N. N. Muravyov, a diplomatic mission to the Khivinsky khan and a successful return to the Caucasus, a report on the progress of the embassy in Khiva to Emperor Alexander I and much more.
The material of diary notes is replete with a large number of rare ethnographic material of the beginning of the century before last, as well as many curious domestic sketches of the details of the military and diplomatic service of N. N. Muravyov. Possessing a bright and living syllable, the author in his diary records gives well -aimed and capacious characteristics of relations with the authorities, colleagues and subordinates, describes the rulers of the Caucasian and Asian principalities and khanates, among which there were a large number of famous and colorful historical characters.
