Party. Hopein D.
The life of Ari Eden has always been subordinate to strict rules. In ultra -Orthodox Brooklyn, his days are devoted only to study and religious rituals. Ari feels very lonely, therefore, when his family moves from the gloomy New - York to the sunny Florida, he is only happy. In the new school, everything is different, Judaism and religious rituals are also studying there, but in general it is a regular and very good school.
Ari quickly flows into the company of friends, plunges into an amazing and previously unknown atmosphere of freedom. His new friends are charismatic, smart, bold, it does not occur to them that life can be limited to some kind of framework, which contradicts Ari's past life. And gradually, Ari from a shy, notorious student of a Jewish school turns into a person who is trying to find his special path in the world of feelings, desires and temptations. All the heroes of the novel by David Hopeen are attracted by Parden, a mystical garden, where a person gains true knowledge, approaches God and his own essentially hidden under external covers.
“Party” is a deep novel filled with meanings about the comprehension of oneself, about the search for truth, about love, both comprehensive and romantic, about what forces determine us: the heady relations of youth, the charm of inherited traditions or our hidden desires.
David Hopeen's debut novel is compared with the book of Salinger “Above the Rye”, but he can be put in a row with other, very different books - “Magi” John Fauls and “The Secret History” of Donna Tartt, Books in which searches are led to a maze, psychological or philosophical.
