The textbook is compiled taking into account the modern requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard for Professional Education of the 3rd generation by pharmacognosy. It contains all the necessary information regarding medicinal plants and medicinal plant materials included in the program and mandatory for assimilation. The history of the development of pharmacognosy, issues of the raw material base of medicinal plants, the stages of the procurement process are considered. Particular attention is paid to control over the authenticity and quality of medicinal plant material, acquaintance with regulatory documentation. The main groups of biologically active substances of medicinal plant material are characterized, the most pronounced pharmacological effect of each of the groups is indicated. Medicinal plants and medicinal plant materials are considered on the basis of pharmacological classification.
