Modern ideas about the physicochemistry of high -temperature compaction and strengthening (sintering) of objects of various nature, both metal and refractory non -metallic ones are set out. The processes occurring on the individual contact of mutually pumping particles are considered, with a decrease in the volume of both isolated pores and the ensemble of pores. The role of defects in the structure of the crystal lattice - vacancies, dislocations, boundaries between grains in the process of sintering of porous bodies is analyzed. The features of the process of sintering of the mixtures of powders of various substances are considered due to the possible effect of mutual diffusion on the process of the process. The patterns of sintering of materials with the participation of a liquid phase of various nature are set out.
