The book of the outstanding Polish pianist and composer Vladislav Spielman talks about the difficult trials that fell to his lot during the Second World War in the Warsaw ghetto. He did not just try to survive, but, as much as possible, participated in resistance to the enemy who came to his native land. However, later it was the help of the German officer who allowed him to escape. Excerpts from the diaries of the same officer, Wilm Koozenfeld, are also included in the publication and serve as an important addition to what Spilman writes about. The book served as the basis of the famous film, set by Roman Polanski.
