Piero riddle. Pierrot della Francesca. 2nd edition, fixed. Ginzburg K.
The famous monograph by Carlo Ginzburg “Pierrot’s riddle” (1981) is an intellectual bestseller and an art history detective, built around the historical interpretation of the frescoes of the XV century, Pierro Della Francesca. The author resolutely departs from the stylistic interpretation of painting and prefers her an analysis of the circumstances that accompanied the creation of Pierrot's masterpieces. The meaning of Pierrot’s paintings is connected with the daily life of the painter himself, his customers and their patrons. An excitingly written study contains several applications, in one of which Ginzburg indicates the mistake of labor made by him in the first edition of labor - this is how the text of the monograph turns into a reflection of the historian over the nature of his own craft.
K. Ginzburg (born in 1939) is a well-known Italian humanitarian scientist, one of the creators of the “micro-chistorical” method, the author of many books and articles on the intellectual history of the Renaissance, New and Newest Time.
