The Obscura Camera (1933) is the fifth novel of Vladimir Nabokov, written in Berlin and published under the pseudonym V. Sirin. The blind passion of the rich art critic Bruno Kretschmar to the sixteen -year -old model Magde, who dreams of a luxurious life and a cinematic career, leads the hero to the loss of a family, moral catastrophe and physical blindness. The deceived and helpless Kretschmar becomes a toy of the cruel lover of Magda Caricaturist Robert Gorn.
The picturesque accuracy of details, the psychological verification of characters, the novelty of the narrative techniques and that mercilessness of the real artist, with which Nabokov interpreted, anticipated the other. His famous novel about fatal passion is Lolita.
