A submachine gun can rightly be called weapons of the 20th century. Born as a result of cruel contractions in the trenches of the First World War, in the interwar decades this weapon became a symbol of gangsters and for a long time was not taken seriously by military experts. Only the beginning of World War II gave a powerful impetus to the development and release of new submachine guns, as a result of which more than 10 million units of this small arms were produced during the war in the world.

Having become one of the most important elements of the weapons of mechanized infantry from the auxiliary weapons, the submachine gun, in turn, became the progenitor of the new class of small arms-machine guns for the intermediate cartridge, which, over time, practically displaced machine gun pistols from military service. By the beginning of the 21st century, a submachine gun in many respects lost its position as army weapons, remaining mainly in the service of a number of special units of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.
