Emperor Nicholas I was a deeply outstanding person and equally contradictory. He read himself by a sincere patriot who longed to make Russia happy and its people, and at the same time brought Russia a lot of trouble. A gentle husband and father, capable of the highest human feelings, he could be extremely ruthless to those whom he considered the violator of the laws established by him. A heeingly believing Christian, he was deprived of the main Christian virtue - the ability to forgive. Proud of his directness and chivalry, he did not shy away from hypocrisy.

The reign of Nicholas I was equally significant and contradictory. The unprecedented rise of Russian culture - Pushkin, Gogol, Lermontov, young Dostoevsky. But Pushkin and Lermontov die. Gogol ends life in severe depression. Dostoevsky was sent to hard labor.

The reign began with loud victories in wars with Persia and Turkey, continued by the defeat of Russian troops in Poland and Hungary, but ended with a catastrophic defeat in the Crimean war.

The magnificent and tragic figure of the emperor, who considered himself the successor of the case of Peter I, as well as the story of his thirty -year reign, deserve a thorough and objective study.
