The novel “Player” has strong autobiographical motifs, because the gambling player was Dostoevsky himself. The history of the creation of this book is very interesting: the victim in Wisbaden, who was lost to the last penny, desperately in need of money, the writer concluded a contract with the publishing house, according to which the novel was supposed to write... in 26 days. These completely implausible deadlines forced Dostoevsky, for the first time in his life, to use the services of the secretary-star-schedule, to whom he dictated the text. So the young Anna Snitkina entered the life of a genius - a woman who was destined to become his wife and muse.
