Plume. Makarova E.
The scene of the novel is a quarantine Jerusalem, a city in which the events of the Old Testament history and the shock of the recent past exist side by side. Pilgrims, who imagined themselves to be kings and messages, are treated with a psychiatrist. In the center of the plague carnival is a heroine, devoid of the ego and therefore not capable of self -identification. She “searches for herself” in the desert Jerusalem and in the documents of several generations of the family, which has experienced all the horror of the first decades of Soviet Russia. The heroes pave their confusing routes in the past and present, their fate mix and merge with each other, rhyme with biblical events, and documents, letters and diary recordings woven into the fabric become a card leading to the acquisition of the ever -slipping “I”.
