Alexey Konstantinovich Tolstoy (1817-1875) in the history of Russian literature is known as one of the creators of the legendary image of Kozma Prutkov, on whose behalf he and his brothers Alexei and Vladimir Zhemchuzhnikov gave readers many immortal aphorisms and wise sayings. A.K. Tolstoy was also a wonderful prose writer (the novel “Prince Silver”), a playwright, a subtle and spiritual lyrics, the author of satirical poems, as well as ballads and epics written on an interesting historical material. Valery Bryusov, Alexander Blok, Velimir Khlebnikov were fond of his work, and Vladimir Mayakovsky, according to Korney Chukovsky, knew Tolstoy's poetry “by heart to the board to the board” and loved to read aloud. Many poems by A.K. Tolstoy are laid to music and became famous romances, including “My bells, steppe flowers”, “It was early in the spring”, “In the middle of the noisy ball by chance...” and others. The real edition included the best from the poetic heritage of this original master of such a versatile talent.
