Fate was cruel to A. A. Akhmatova (1889 - 1966), and the tart taste of bitterness and tragedy complements the strict sophistication and harmony of its poetic lines. Marina Tsvetaeva called Anna Akhmatova “Anna of All Rus'”, maybe because for the first time in her poetry, a female voice sounded so piercingly and consciously.
