Lev Vladimirovich Losev (1937-2009) was born in Leningrad, graduated from the University of Leningrad, worked as an editor in the magazine "Bonfire" (1962-1975). In 1976 he emigrated to the United States, graduated from graduate school at the University of Michigan, taught Russian literature at the Dartmut College in New Hampshire. He began to print poetry in 1979, first in exile publications, and since 1988 in Russia.
In his work, Losev has been prone to intellectual game, his poems are full of allusions from Russian literature of all centuries. According to Sergei Gandlevsky, they sound the “outlandish adverb of Soviet social disclosure”, metaphysical thoughts get along with anger of the day, world sorrow is adjacent to the pun.
