“Poor People” (1845) - F. M. Dostoevsky's debut novel, who made the writer known in literary circles before the publication. Among the very first readers was D.V. Grigorovich, who read the manuscript of N. A. Nekrasov: “On the last page, when the old girl says goodbye to Varenka, I could no longer control myself and began to sob; I furtively looked at Nekrasov: tears also flowed across his face. ” Having finished reading, in the morning they came to Dostoevsky to report a strong impression made by the novel. Nekrasov handed the manuscript to Belinsky with the words: "The new Gogol appeared!" Many years later, Dostoevsky recalled Belinsky’s words: “The truth is open to you as an artist, got it as a gift, appreciate your gift and remain true and will be a great writer!. ? " In January 1846, the novel “Poor People” saw the light in the Almanac of Nekrasov “Petersburg Collection”: this is how readers first met Dostoevsky’s work.
