The story “Poor People” of Fedor Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881) is a successful debut of the writer. The love story of Makar Devyna and Varenka Dobroselova conquered the hearts of the writers who saw the new Gogol in the young writer, and readers at once. The minor concerns of small officials are shown with such humanism that they inevitably cause sympathy and compassion of readers. And in the “double” the author continued the glorious Gogol tradition and invented his “little man”, inside of which the abyss of contradictions that drive crazy.
