Post -factual. Two countries, four decades, one anthropologist. GIRTS K.

Intellectual autobiography of one of the largest cultural anthropologists of the 20th century, the founder of the so -called symbolic, or “interpretative”, anthropology. The book is based on many years of experience in the life and work of the author in two cities - a couple (Indonesia) and Sephre (Morocco). Over the years of observation, these countries, and the world as a whole, and the anthropologist, and the entire international intellectual context have changed. Is it possible in this case to find the starting point of observation, where do these multi -level changes are visible from? Such an observation center in the book becomes the figure of the researcher.

Applying its famous method of “dense description” to one’s own life, GIRC shows how private and everyday practices correlate with a wide social and political context, how the observer itself gives the order and logic, the post -fact of identifying and interpreting the data of the relationship. As a result, a book about personal experience of studying transformations in the “developing” countries of Asia and Africa becomes a brilliant excursion into the theory and practice of cultural anthropology, reflection on the possibilities and purpose of the humanities.
