Power in Ancient Rus'. X-XIII century. Tolochko P.
The book explores the main power organs of the Old Russian statehood of the 10th centuries. : Prince, Veche, Duma, thousand, governor, Posadnik. This topic is one of the most discussed in domestic historiography. The main question to which historians tried to find the answer was whether the institutional contents had these managerial structures. They came to contradictory judgments, sometimes generally denying the state status of Ancient Rus'. The analysis of the available written sources allowed the author to justify the conclusion that the authorities in ancient Rus', being well structured, definitely had an institutional nature. It is quite comparable with the medieval European government system. Confirmation of this is that the Old Russian government was able to provide the Eastern Slavic society with a legally regulated daily routine, to outline its territorial limits and protect them, as well as maintain contractual interstate relations.
