The publication publishes the so-called Caucasian works of L. N. Tolstoy: the stories “RAST”, “LOADING”, “Caucasian captive” and the novel “Cossacks” and “Haji-Murat”. They were reflected in the impression of the writer from his three -year service in the Caucasus. In 1851, he went there to his elder brother Nikolai, an officer of the army, and lived for almost three years in the Cossack village on the banks of the Terek. The story “Cossacks” is rightfully called the main work of L. H. Tolstoy of the 1850s, on which he worked, with interruptions, 10 years (1853-1863).
