In the work “Problems of the Method” (1957, 1960), the French philosopher and writer Jean Paul Sartre tries to reconcile Marxism with existentialism. Exploring the complex relations of two philosophical schools, Sartre suggests that they are actually compatible and even complement each other. Without this essay, written almost simultaneously with his program work “Criticism of the Dialectical Mind” (1st volume-1960; 2nd, incomplete,-1985), it is impossible to get a fairly complete idea of the philosophy of Sartre.
