The training manual sets out the history of the emergence and area of ​​the application of psychological counseling as a special form of activity of a psychologist, the approaches to determining counseling in science are considered, and the models of psychological counseling and the sphere of application are given and analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the methodological foundations of counseling in the practice of helping children with developmental disorders and specific methods of counseling in special psychology. Actual problems of psychological counseling are revealed on the basis of modern achievements of psychological and neurobiological sciences.

The manual provides a phased system of psychological counseling of children with developmental disabilities with the allocation of specific procedures and techniques of each stage. The stage of work with parents of children in the process of counseling has been allocated. A separate chapter is devoted to the regulatory support of the activity of a practical psychologist.
