Rabelais. France A.

In world literature, the name Francois Rabelae occupies a very special place. For centuries, he had been addressed, followed him, the largest writers and poets invariably admired them. One of the most devoted admirers of his genius was Anatole France.

France was in a society of studying Rabelais and took a feasible part in his work. He dedicated the Essay “Gargantua” (1889) to the great satirist, and the admiration for them did not get tired of expressing on the pages of his articles. The cherished, albeit remaining unprofitable intention of France was a large book about Rabelah, the material for which the writer collected for several years. The talented student of the French humanist was performed by France in a number of his works (“Modern History”, “Comedy of the man who married the dumb”, “Penguins Island”, “The Uprising of Angels”).

This book is the text of the public lectures of France, read by him in Argentina in 1909. The biography of Rabelais complements the meaningful analysis of each of the five parts of his novel. The author pays particular attention to the relationships of Rabelais with various literary traditions and its influence on the subsequent development of French literature.
