The son of a ruined winemaker Felix Krul is beautiful, like Apollo, and a rogue, like Hermes. He goes through life laughing, equally easily refers to victories and defeats and uses people in his scams so charming and witty that the victims, as under hypnosis, themselves help the charming fraudster to adopt them. The conscience is even hat. But here is a paradox: it cannot be considered a villain. In essence, it is no worse than the respectable bourgeois world, in which he breaks the path by far from respectable methods...
