Red and black. Stendhal
Streaml’s novel “Red and Black” is a universally recognized literary masterpiece of the nineteenth century. It is known that A. S. Pushkin, reading the first volume of literary novelty in 1831 in French, was delighted and begged Princess Khitrovo to urgently send him the second.
The plot of the ambitious and talented young man, the native of the lower classes, A. I. Turgenev, P. A. Vyazemsky, L. N. Tolstoy were read. Having come to the conclusion that “in our age, money is everything”, the young Julien Sorrel begins a kind of social ascension and, in essence, relatively easily achieves the goals. Among the many assumptions about the meaning of the novel “Red and Black” you can find a version according to which Stendhal disguised the two feelings under secret flowers, raging in the soul of a ambitious young man: passion as a spiritual impulse, as an unconscious attraction and ambition, associated with a thirst for glory, recognition at all costs. The interpenetration and struggle of these feelings constitute the internal intrigue of Streaml’s novel.
