Reflections on guillotine. Camus A.
Already during the life of Albert Camus, they called the “Conscience of the West”, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for “important literary work, which with clear seriousness illuminates the problems of human conscience in our time”. Camia of cruelty and violence testifies to both his life and his work. In the essay “Reflections on the Guillotine”, which came out when the death penalty was still used in France, he talks about its inefficiency, considers it as a relic of the past.
In the "Swedish speeches" uttered at the presentation of the Nobel Prize and in the University of the UPSALI, Camus talks about the role of the writer in the world, the goals of art and the calling of the Creator to serve society, not succumbing to lies and rude power. “Letters to the German friend”, written during the Second World War, when Camus worked as an editor of the underground newspaper, the author himself called the “documentary story about the struggle against violence.”
