Reinex-Lis. Goethe I.V.
“Reine Lis” is the satirical poem of the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832), created by him in 1793 on the basis of the French medieval epic. The author of the poem masterfully ridicules feudal society. Under the masks of a bear, a wolf, a badger and other animals and birds, representatives of a variety of classes are hidden - from the courtiers to the peasants. In the center of the story is a cunning fox that can get out of any troubles and cleverly deceive the king himself.
In this edition, the poem is presented in a prose retelling with a complete set of illustrations of Henry Leutemanne and some works of William Kaulbach and Joseph Wolf. The book also includes the French version of the epic with illustrations of Benjamen Rabier.
