The author of the book is Melita Mashmann, who was in the years of Nazism a referent of the press and propaganda department of the Union of German Girls.

The book is written in the form of a letter to a former school friend, a Jewish girl who was due to the known circumstances on the other side of the barbed wire. Memoirs describe in detail the path of a socially conscious, well -educated girl from the middle class, who joins the Hitler Youth, leads the eviction of Polish farmers from their lands and works in the highest echelons of the Nazi press and propaganda. Melita Mashmann died in Germany in 2010. She was never married, and she had no children.
