Resurrection. Tolstoy L.
“Resurrection” is the last Tolstoy novel, the spiritual and creative searches of the last years of the writer’s life were reflected in it. Started in 1889, the novel was finished and saw the light after 10 years - in 1899. In the Russian press, many scenes and even chapters were prohibited from publication. The Roman "Resurrection" was among those works of Tolstoy, because of which he was excommunicated. After the 1917 revolution, the situation changed dramatically: the novel, where the criticism of the clergy sounded and exiled revolutionaries were depicted, willingly printed in large circulations, in Soviet interpretations it turned almost into political agitation, and the history of the prince of Nekhlyudov and Katyusha Maslova appeared instructive-indifferent. Today the novel is read differently. It feels the insightful and ambiguous attitude of Tolstoy to the future changes, and his desire to get away from any tendentiousness, and a gravity to the comprehensive and deep coverage of the Russian reality of the last third of the XIX century.
