The story of the friendship of Hans Schwartz, the son of a Jewish doctor, and Konradin von Hoenfels, a young aristocrat, whose parents despise Jews.
Action takes place in Stuttgart during the Nazi regime, seven years before the Second World War. Hitler's coming to power forces Konradin to abandon Hans. Hans's parents send him to the United States. There he studies at Harvard and becomes a lawyer. 30 years later, Hans tries to erase the memories of the past, but they do not let him go.
The author of the book Fred Ulman was born in Stuttgart, the capital of Württemberg, in 1901.
"Reunion" written In 1960, it is not an autobiographical book, although, of course, there are elements of an autobiography in it. The school, teachers and classmates of the protagonist of the story were written off from the Eberhard Ludwig gymnasium, the oldest educational institution of Württemberg, where Ulman studied. “The main character, of course, is me,” he said. “But I never friends with any Hoenfels.” This part is completely fictional, and the Hoenfels family is the collective image of the German boy-aristocrat and his parents. ”
