Archimandrite Anthony (Medvedev; 1792-1877) for almost half a century was the rector of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. He became famous not only as her well -being and builder, but also as a spiritual teacher. The biography contains instructions to the monks and the laity, evidence of the posthumous miraculous help of the Monk Anthony, talks about his meetings with St. Filaret (Drozdov). Monastic letters collected, and partly written by Archimandrite Anthony himself, were first published by him with the blessing of St. Filaret in the middle of the 19th century and entered the circle of their favorite reading of the Russian people.
