English writer Joseph Redyard Kipling (1865-1936) lived an outstanding life. Parents named him in honor of Lake Redyard, on the banks of which they met. The boy was born in India, who was then a distant province of the British Empire. At six, he was sent to study in England. Returning to India who matured, Kipling worked as an assistant editor in a small newspaper in the city of Lahore. He had to ride a lot around the country. Of these sketches, the first stories were born to make him a famous writer.
Kipling traveled a lot - he was even in China and Japan! For one of the US children's magazines (having married, he moved there), two “Jungle Books” were written, which were a huge success.
, moving to England was marked by the release of such books as the story “Kim” and “Tales simply So". The latter were born from Kipling’s stories to their children and nephews, and later won the love of children in the whole world.
The fairy tale in this book was translated into Russian by K. I. Chukovsky, and the poetic texts were translated by S. Ya. Marshak.
