Daniel Defoe, a talented publicist, a famous journalist, publisher of the newspaper Review, was at the same time an enterprising businessman and even an adventurer - a common phenomenon in England of the 17th century. The author of more than 500 books and articles at one time participated in an uprising against the king, owned a brick factory, conducted trade in Spain and France, learned six languages ​​and was even a secret agent of government. However, not pamphlets and political articles glorified the name of Daniel Defoe, but written in the declining years, at sixty, the adventure novel “Robinson Crusoe” is the first realistic novel of English literature.
