Rock Paper Scissors. Garland I.
On March 24, 1976, life in Argentina turned over overnight: the military junta seized power and established a tough dictatorship in the country. Not everyone wanted to obey the new regime, and first of all Argentine youth, adolescents. It was with them that the military was mercilessly unforgived and rebellious straightened: they stole, sophisticatedly tortured in secret prisons, raped, brutally killed. They stole newborn children of prisoners and gave their parents to the foster families of military killers, where they grew up, not knowing the truth about their origin all their lives. Ines Garland was sixteen when a military coup occurred in Argentina. Like the main character of Alma’s book, Ines did not even suspect what was going on in the country, and her parents and the environment supported the new government. Already as an adult, Ines Garland rethought everything that had happened and re -opened this dark head of Argentina’s history in order to never forget about the victims of the dictatorship. The novel “Stone, Scissors, Paper” received the Award of the Argentine Association of Children and Youth Literature (Alija) as the best teenage novel of 2009 and was transferred to German, Italian, French and Dutch.
