The book is dedicated to the life and creative activity of an outstanding journalist, writer, local historian Elezabeth Ivanovna Yakovkina (1884–1982). The narrative is based on its long -term diary records and correspondence, the memoirs of her contemporaries. Having spent most of his life in Pyatigorsk, the heroine of the book turned out to be a witness and participant in many important historical events of the twentieth century in the North Caucasus. The book was reflected in a difficult, complete drama, but at the same time the happy fate of a multifaceted and vivid person, which was E.I. Yakovkin.
. The main thing of the life of E.I. Yakovkina became work for 13 years as the director of the Lermontov House Museum. Thanks to its fruitful efforts, the museum during this period has become a famous literary, research and cultural center in the country. Museum employees led by E.I. Yakovkin managed to save the "Lermontov House" in the formidable years of the Great Patriotic War. The invaluable art collections of the Rostov Museum of Fine Arts were also evacuated in Pyatigorsk. The book first publishes diary entries of this time.
