Romango - before. The path of Russian manga. Mager Yu.
We present to your attention the catalog of the exhibition “Romanga-Do: Romanga-Dou: Russian Manga Way), organized in the library of comics of St. Petersburg as part of the Year of Japan in Russia from September 15 to 29, 2018 by curators Julia Mager and Julia Tarasuk. The Russian manga is a young phenomenon, but already having its own story, the countdown of which is customary to conduct since 1998, when the manga -series “Nika” began on the pages of the “Class magazine”. The catalog introduces the work of twenty -eight artists and scriptwriters inspired by the style of Japanese comics and at the same time paying tribute to national traditions, Russian history and culture. It included the best Russian-speaking authors, including an American of Russian descent Svetlana Shmakova, comixists Bogdan and Evgeny Fedotov, illustrators Ilya Kuvshinov and Julia Litvinova, Mangaki Marina Rerekina, Hetiru, Tatyana “Sideburn004” Lepikhina and many others. Their works, presented in the form of color illustrations and black and white comics-manga, are collected in accordance with three key sections-“Russian fairy tales and folklore”, “National cuisine and culture of the peoples of Russia” and “History of modern Russia”.
