Rudin. Turgenev I.

“Rudin”-the first among the brilliant novels of Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (1818-1883), originally conceived by a great prose writer called “Genital Nature”. Working on this work, Turgenev relied not only on the experience of his Russian predecessors, but also followed the traditions of the European novel. The psychological tie of the love conflict in Rudin directly echoes the George Sand novels widely known at that time. It is all the more surprising that the image of the protagonist continued the line begun by Pushkin and Lermontov, and became a new embodiment of those properties and qualities that were inherent in Onegin and Pechorin. N. A. Nekrasov wrote about Rudin that this personality is "mighty with all weaknesses, fascinating with all the shortcomings." A person is intelligent and educated, erudite and eloquent, professing high ideals, he turned out to be helpless in the embodiment of his aspirations, did not manage to find happiness, did not appreciate love. It joined the romantic rebel Hamlet and the lone monastery of Don Quixote - two types that are unusually important for understanding the Russian character in any historical era.
