The presented monograph concerns the problem of creating, developing and spreading the Ukrainian language. Is this language that is announced today for the indigenous population of Ukraine is such? How did language relations develop in the space occupied by modern Ukraine? What place does the Russian literary language take here? The chronological framework of the study cover the period from the emergence of the Little Russian dialect to this day. Particular attention was paid to the attitude of the authorities and society to the linguistic issue in the second half of the nineteenth and early XX century, as well as the Ukrainianization policy carried out in this territory after the establishment of Soviet power.
