The essay of the outstanding Russian sociologist and scientist-scientist N. Ya. Danilevsky “Russia and Europe” (1868), along with the works of O. Spengler and A. Toynbee, laid the foundations of a civilizational approach to the development of society. The author of cultural and historical types proposed by him can be considered an unconditional achievement of the author, two of which-Slavic and German-Romanian-are always opposed to each other in a closer examination. Underestimated during Danilevsky’s lifetime, perceived by many “for literary curiosity”, this book has experienced a second birth and is rightfully considered an important milestone in the development of sociology and geopolitics.
