Russia in the era of climate change. Gustafson T.
Russia will be one of the countries that will experience the consequences of climate change. No other large power depends on the export of hydrocarbons as Russia. At the same time, two -thirds of the territory of Russia is in the Arctic North, where the melting of permafrost already poses a serious threat. Climate change will also bring droughts and floods to the south of Russia, pose a threat to agricultural export.
Tain Gustafson predicts that climate change in the next thirty years will have the most serious consequences for Russia. The use of fossil fuel is already reduced, and the restrictions on hydrocarbons will only increase, which will lead to a decrease in prices for fuel and export revenue of Russia. Optimists indicate new opportunities that open due to a change in climate - higher temperatures can increase productivity, melting of arctic ice can open year -round shipping in the Far North, and Russia can become a global supplier of nuclear energy. But the next generation of Russian leaders will have to face enormous difficulties, since their country will be weaker than ever before.
