The book of the American diplomat George Kennan is devoted to the relationship of two great powers and the establishment of diplomatic ties in the first years of Soviet power. The author recreates the events of 1917-1918 in detail. From the point of view of a foreigner, relying on the diaries, personal and business correspondence of representatives of the diplomatic corps, embassy workers of Great Britain and the USA, as well as individuals who find themselves in the Petrograd revolution. Considering the circumstances of the release of Russia from the First World War, Kennan talks about diplomatic games aimed at delaying military operations, and also reflects the Western reaction to the political system in Russia and the approval of the Bolshevik government.
