Russian agrarian holidays. Propp V.
Vladimir Yakovlevich PrPP - an outstanding domestic philologist, professor of Leningrad University. One of the founders of the structural and typological approach in folklorism, which later received widespread use in literary criticism. The works of V. Ya. Proppa on the study of folklore (“Morphology of the Tale”, “The historical roots of a fairy tale”, “Russian heroic epic”, “Russian agrarian holidays”) were included in the Golden Fund of World Science of the twentieth century.
The book "Russian Agrarian Holidays" is one of the classic works dedicated to the Eastern Slavic calendar rites. It created a holistic scientific concept of the holidays of the annual cycle, oriented, on the one hand, to the agricultural calendar, on the other, to the church calendar. Many holidays, known to us today, rooted in ancient times, combined elements of pagan and Orthodox culture in their ritual, but at the same time, their original semantic content lost their original extent. The book by V. Ya. Proppa, published in 1963 by a small circulation, became an event, indicating the new vector with folklore, ethnographic and cultural studies.
