Russian art. Grabar I.E.
The name of Igor Emmanuilovich Grabar (1871–1960) is inextricably linked with the art of the Soviet period. He became famous not only as a painter, but also as an art critic, enlightener and ancestor of the Russian Restoration School.
Multi -volume work “History of Russian Art” is one of the important cultural studies of the beginning of the 20th century. Having acted as an editor and author, Grabar created the first complete and thorough presentation of the history of domestic architecture and painting from ancient times to the 18th century. Also among the authors of the essays are the Ukrainian historian-articulate G. G. Pavlutsky, art critic and translator P.P. Muratov, restorers F. F. Gornostaev, A. V. Schusev, V. A. Pokrovsky and V.V. Suslov.
The real edition combines two volumes: the first - “The History of Architecture. The pre -Petrine era ”about the ancient monuments of culture belonging to the stone and wooden architecture of Moscow, Veliky Novgorod, Pskov and other cities, and the sixth -“ The history of painting. Pre -Petrine era "about outstanding masters and icon painters of the Russian Middle Ages.
