The first book in which the philologist and folklorist V. Ya. Propp considers the Russian heroic epic as part of Russian culture, Russian history, Russian reality. The epic, rooted in gray antiquity, at the time of matriarchy, heroes and lifting, and new folk poetry, singing selfless love for the homeland, decisiveness and courage, mind and resourcefulness, strength of spirit and beauty.
