Russian Misopon. Peter I, Braudbrium and ten million “Muscovites”. Akeliev E.V.
The famous order of Peter I on Braudbrics, more like a joke than the deliberate initiative of the wise converter of Russia, has never become the subject of special analysis. Evgeny Akelyev takes on the study of this topic and discovers in it a great potential for studying the nature of the authorities in Petrovsky Russia.
Why did the tsar need to introduce a mandatory bradobride at the most intense moment of the Northern War? What everyday practices were related to this order? Why were the opponents of the decree ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of their right to wear beards? The search for answers to these questions gave the author the opportunity to describe important changes in the relations of the state and society in Russia of the late XVII - first third of the 18th century. Evgeny Akeliev - Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor NIU HSE.
