Richard Brinley Sheridan (1751-1816)-one of the brilliant people of his time, a man of many talents. He is known not only as a poet and a playwright, but also as a prominent parliamentarian, a member of the VIGU party, an outstanding speaker.
The book includes three famous plays of Sheridan: “School of Sundance”, “Duenya” and “Rivals”. These cheerful comedies of morals became a completely new phenomenon at the English theater of the late XVIII century - then on the stages of Britain a sentimental melodrama dominated.
In Russia, Sheridan’s plays also had a happy fate, they were put on famous scenes, and filmed. The television version of the remarkable performance “School of Sundance” of the Moscow Art Theater of 1952 was preserved with the participation of outstanding actors - Mikhail Yanshin, Anatoly Lyurov, Pavel Massalsky. In the film "Duenya" (1978), based on the play of the English comedian, Tatyana Vasilieva, Evgeny Leonov and Irina Muravyeva shone.
